Obituary of Roger Anerella

Roger S. Anerella, Sr., 77, of Manchester, NJ passed away on April 18, 2014 at CentraState Medical Center, Freehold Township, NJ. Roger was born in the Chelsea neighborhood of Manhattan and had lived there and the Great Kills section of Staten Island before settling to Manchester, NJ in 2003. He was an elevator mechanic and a member of the National Elevator Industry Union Local #1, working for Otis Elevator and Westinghouse, both in New York City, before retiring in 1979. Instructed by his father, Roger became a homing pigeon aficionado. He raised and flew pigeons under the loft name RPD and was a member of the Staten Island Racing Pigeon Club. Roger was a devoted husband, loving father, adoring grandfather, and beloved brother. Roger was predeceased by his wife, Margaret "Peggy" Anerella (nee Munroe) in 2007 and a son-in-law, Michael Mazza in 2008. He is survived by his children, Deborah J. Mara of Manalapan, Roger Anerella, Jr. and his wife, Christine of Flemington, Dawn M. Anerella-Mazza of Monroe, and Daniel Anerella of Manalapan; ten grandchildren, Robert, Christopher, Nicholas, Lucas, Abigail, Michele, Joseph, Jessica, Alexandra, and Daniel; four sisters, Louise Marcario of Marlboro, Linda Lam of Staten Island, Theresa Anerella of Staten Island, and Mary Argento of Staten Island; and many nieces and nephews. Visiting at the Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, 100 Elton-Adelphia Road (Route 524), Freehold Township on Wednesday, April 23, 2014 from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 PM. Relatives and friends are invited to gather at the funeral home on Thursday, April 24, 2014 at 8:45 AM for the procession to Our Lady of Mercy Church, 58 Main Street, Englishtown, NJ, for his 10:00 AM Funeral Mass.
