Obituary of Alphonsus Bonner

Alphonsus J. "Al" Bonner, 85, of Neptune City passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, January 18, 2014. He was born in Elizabeth and had lived in Neptune City for almost 60 years. Al was a graduate of St. Mary's High School in Perth Amboy class of 1946. He was a US Navy Veteran and served his country during WWII & the Korean War. He was a Tin Can Sailor. Al was an active member of the United Fire Company #1 in Neptune City for over 54 years and served as Chief in 1971. He was a charter member and former President of the Association of Exempt Firemen Borough of Neptune City. He was also a member of the Firemen's Relief Association. Al was a Radio Engineer for WJLK "The Radio Voice of the Asbury Park Press" for over 40 years retiring in 1989. He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Sally Bonner; one son and his partner, Alan Bonner and Dan Laudicina of Sun Lake, Arizona; a daughter and her husband, Bonnie and Gary Zimmerman of Ocean Township; three adoring grandchildren, Katelyn, Arron and Jonathan Zimmerman; and many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held at Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, 100 Elton-Adelphia Road (Route 524), Freehold Township on Wednesday, January 22, 2014 from 2:00 to 4:00 & 7:00 to 9:00 PM. Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral service on Thursday, January 23, 2014 at 12 noon at the funeral home. Cremation will be private and followed by interment of his cremated remains at Brig. General William C. Doyle New Jersey Veteran Cemetery, Arneytown at the convenience of the family.
