Obituary of Helen Cottrell

Helen C. Cottrell, 90, of Freehold passed away at home surrounded by her family on Thursday, January 16, 2014. She was born in Englishtown and was a lifelong resident of Freehold. She was a member of the U.S. Womens Army Corp having served during World War II as part of General Douglas McArthur's staff in the Asiatic Pacific Theater. Prior to retiring in 1988, she was employed by the U.S. Government working out of Fort Monmouth. Helen was predeceased by her husband, Eugene Cottrell in 1968; and her son, William Cottrell in 1987. She is survived by three sons, Joseph Cottrell of Tinton Falls, James Cottrell of Baton Rouge, LA and Michael Cottrell of Annapolis, MD; two daughters, Patricia Baroudi of Montpelier, VT and Eileen Traphagen of Farmingdale; ten grandchildren; two great grandchildren; two brothers, Joseph Ball of Denver, CO and John Ball of Hawaii; and her sister, Sophie Brennan of Boca Raton, FL. A receiving of friends will be held at the Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, 100 Elton-Adelphia Road (Route 524), Freehold Township on Thursday, January 23, 2014 from 7:00 to 9:00 PM. Relatives and friends are invited to attend her 10:00 AM Memorial Mass on Friday, January 24, 2014 at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, McLean Street, Freehold. Interment will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, Millstone Township. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in memory of Helen may be made to the VNA Health Group Hospice, 176 Riverside Avenue, Red Bank, New Jersey 07701.
