Obituary of Luba Butkoff

LUBA H. BUTKOFF, 80, of FREEHOLD TOWNSHIP, passed away peacefully at home. Mrs. Butkoff was born in Beaver Falls, Pa., and shortly thereafter with her parents moved to Cleveland, then to Parma, Ohio. In 1938, she and her family moved to Freehold. Mrs. Butkoff graduated from Freehold High School and Metropolitan Hospital School of Nursing, New York City and was a member of the U.S. Cadet Nursing Corps. Mrs. Butkoff attended Columbia University and Hunter College, New York City. Mrs. Butkoff was a registered nurse at Metropolitan Hospital from 1948 to 1967, when she returned to Freehold with her husband and two children. She was a nursing supervisor at Holmdel Convalescent Center, Holmdel, from 1969 until her retirement in 1996. While living in New York, she was a member of the Russia Children's Welfare Society and became vice president of the New York branch. Mrs. Butkoff was a member of the American-Russian Welfare Society and Rodina, both of Howell. She was a life member of the Metropolitan Hospital School of Nursing Alumni Association. Mrs. Butkoff was a past communicant of St. Alexander Nevsky Russian Orthodox Church, Howell, and for many years an active member of its sisterhood. Currently she was a communicant of St. Vladimir's Memorial Church, Jackson. Mrs. Butkoff was predeceased by her parents, Paul and Catherine Hamburger. She is survived by her husband, Paul; a son and daughter-in-law; Paul and Patricia Butkoff of Freehold Township; a granddaughter, Brianna; and a stepdaughter and stepson-in-law; Helen and Michael Lake of Winchester, Va. Pannyhida will be offered at 6 p.m. Monday at St. Vladimir's Memorial Church, 134 Perrineville Road, Jackson. Friends and relatives are invited to attend her Funeral Liturgy at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the church. Interment will follow at St. Vladimir's Cemetery, Jackson.
