Obituary of Jean Marie Lewis

Jean Marie Lewis (née Benninger)

August 27, 1965 – December 9, 2024

Jean Marie Lewis, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, aunt and friend, passed away on December 9, 2024, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born on August 27, 1965, Jean grew up most of her life in Brick, before making Howell her home for the past 32 years.

Jean is survived by her devoted husband and the “love of her life”, Paul Lewis; her children, Paulie Lewis Jr. and ToniAnn DeSimone, along with ToniAnn’s fiancé, William Eisley; her cherished grandchildren, Jonathen, Gabriella, and Marlana; her loving parents, Chuck and Shirley Benninger; and her many brothers. She will be deeply missed by countless family members and friends. Jean was predeceased by her mother-in-law, Doris Lewis.

Jean’s passions and vibrant personality left an undeniable mark on all who knew her. She met her husband Paul over a game of darts at the Pit Stop in Brick, a sport she loved deeply. She also enjoyed golfing with her husband and her in-laws, who she fondly nicknamed "Ducky Palmer." Jean loved camping trips where she created lasting memories with friends and family. A lover of animals, Jean was known as the "dog whisperer" and spent peaceful days on her back porch, captivated by the hummingbirds.

Her playful spirit shone through her love of scratchers and visits to Atlantic City to try her luck at the slot machines. Jean had an infectious laugh that could light up any room and a talent for making everyone around her smile—often by laughing at her own antics. She was proudly known as the "World’s Dopest Mom" (if you know, you know).

Jean faced her illness with strength, determination, and unwavering courage, inspiring all who witnessed her journey. Her memory will live on in the hearts of those who loved her, and her legacy of joy, laughter, and resilience will never be forgotten.

A celebration of Jean’s life will be held on December 17, 2024 at 11:00 AM at  the First Assembly of God Church located at 272 Jackson Mills Road, Freehold, Township.  All arrangements were under the direction of the Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, Freehold Township.
