Obituary of Leona Abby Kelleher

Leona Abby Kelleher, 92, of Howell passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, October 8, 2024. She was born in Brooklyn, NY and lived in Staten Island, NY before moving to New Jersey over forty years ago. Leona graduated from James Madison High School, Brooklyn. In 1952 she married Maxwell Glazer and was a dedicated mother to her daughters Mindy and Barbara raising them in Brooklyn and Staten Island. Her family owned and operated Camp Woodstock, a children’s sleep away camp in East Berne, NY where she worked every summer as the Head Counselor until 1971. She also worked for many years as a real estate agent in New York and New Jersey. Leona was a force of nature. She loved her family with every fiber of her body and constantly said to her great grand children “I love you to the stars and back”.

Leona was predeceased by her first husband, Maxwell Glazer, late husband, James Kelleher, brother, Malcolm Marchand; and her beloved dog, Rocky. She is survived by her daughters, Mindy Wille and her husband, Douglas of Toms River and Barbara Glazer and her husband, Philip Morton of Los Angeles; and a daughter of her heart, Pauline Derwin of Staten Island She leaves behind her granddaughter, Jennifer and her husband, Michael, grandson, David and his wife, Emily and their children Vanessa and Scarlet, as well as grandson Jonathan and his wife, Isabelle and her nephew, Steven and his wife, Fern. 

A memorial gathering will be held at the Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, 100 Elton-Adelphia Road (Route 524), Freehold Township on Friday, October 11 from 10:30 AM to 12:00 PM with her memorial service to follow.  Relatives and friends are invited to attend her 1:00 PM inurnment at Maplewood Cemetery, 169 West Main Street, Freehold Township.  The family invites friends to reminisce and visit at the home of David and Emily Wille at 5 Craig Court, Millstone on Friday, after the funeral and Saturday and Sunday from 12:00 PM on.
