David Thorpe

Obituary of David Benjamin Thorpe

David “Benji” Thorpe was born to the late Gwendolyn and Angres David Thorpe. David transitioned to his heavenly home on Thursday July 18, 2024. David, affectionately known as “Ces”, had a passion for sports. His love for the New York David Giants was endless. David was a phenomenal pool player & he also was a part of a bowling league.

David was raised in Elizabeth, NJ where he attended the Elizabeth school system & graduated in 1992. He furthered his education & attended Essex County College. In 1999, David & his Godbrother Kirk McNair (Clara), migrated from Newark, NJ to South Toms River, NJ where he met his beloved wife Marguerite Thorpe. David returned to school to further his education even further at Ocean County Vocational Technical School & received numerous certificates for apprentice electricity. David had a passion for his work. He was a Chemical Plant Machinery Operator until he landed his dream career as a 1st Class Marine Electrician for General Dynamics Master Ship Contractor for the U.S. Navy, in Jacksonville, Florida. He continued to work until his illness took its course. David was fighting for his life, but he stayed with jokes. Up to his last days all he wanted was to be home surrounded by loved ones & that’s exactly what his wife gave him.

In the early 2000’s David accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Lord & Savior under the late Richard Bell. David loved God & his Gospel music. After attending many services in May 2023, he rededicated his life to Christ under leadership of overseer Donnie Clyburn at Pathway of Life Ministries in Toms River, NJ.

David was predeceased by his parents, Gwendolyn & Angres Thorpe; brother, Duane Robertson; sister-in-law, Kathleen Davis; and his loving dog, “Dollar”.

He leaves to Cherish his memory, his beautiful wife, Marguerite Thorpe; his sons, Marquel & Markeyth “Maria”; grandchildren, Markeyth Jr., Mya, Malani; sisters, Karen Roberson (Ricardo) and Danielle Smith; brother, Angres Thrope, Jr.; Godchildren, Zurionna, Camron, Caron, and Trew; stepsisters, Beverly & Tomasena; Godbrother/Best friend, Kirk McNair (Clara) & Sid Young.
