Obituary of Sarah Jane Nelson
Sarah Jane Nelson, 91, of Farmingdale passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 26, 2024 with her loving family by her side.
Sarah Jane Nelson was born on February 12, 1933 in Farmingdale, NJ. She attended Farmingdale Grade School and Freehold Township High School and was a 1955 graduate of Rider College (University).
After college Sarah worked for the First New Jersey Securities Company in Asbury Park, New Jersey.
In 1956 Sarah married Sherman M. Nelson of Sea Bright, NJ. Together they lived in Fort Devens, MA and then Watertown, NY while he served in the U.S. Army. After the service they settled in Farmingdale in 1959 where they raised a family.
Sarah was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Farmingdale where she taught Sunday School for many years. She was honored to be a fundraiser for The American Heart Association, The March of Dimes, and The American Red Cross. As a blood donor Sarah received many “gallon pins” and felt comforted knowing she had helped many people receive blood in a time of need.
Sarah was predeceased by her husband of 66 years Sherman M. Nelson. She is survived by three children, Laura Nelson Selinsky and her husband, Dr. Barry Selinsky of King of Prussia, PA, Angie Nelson Pena and her husband, Jose of Winchester, TN, and Heidi Nelson and her partner Donald Schnoor of Springfield Twp., NJ; five grandchildren, Dr. Rachel Selinsky and her husband Dr. Kyle Caspary, Dr. Peter Selinsky and his wife Dr. Margy McCullough, Tamara Simonow and her husband Sergio Da Conceição, Cristina Simonow Umbrewicz and her husband Cristopher Umbrewicz and Alexis Simonow and her partner Tyler DeVogel ; and five great grandchildren, Eli and Owen Da Conceição, Remington and Celeste Caspary and Elodie Selinsky, as well as, her beloved sister, Amelia Yetman of Wall Township, NJ.
