Obituary of Nila Alonzo

Nila Alonzo passed away on Friday, June 21, 2024 at home in Howell, surrounded by her beloved family. She was 84. She was born and raised in Guayaquil, Ecuador and moved to New York City at the age of 29. Nila lived all over New Jersey, in Newark, Harrison, Brick, and Toms River, before settling in Howell in 2016. She enjoyed traveling, practicing her sewing skills, and tending to her wonderful assortment of plants and flowers with her unmatched green thumb. She was also an avid Telemundo viewer—Nila could not get enough of her favorite telenovelas. A woman of incredible skill and work ethic, Nila held various jobs throughout her life, from cookie maker to cake decorator to seamstress. But her favorite job of all was being a caring, thoughtful, and devoted mother and grandmother. Anyone who knew her felt her sharp wit, generous spirit, and the love she brought into our lives. Nila will be missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.

She was predeceased by her parents, Felix and Enriqueta Meza; and siblings, Gladys, Germania, Fernando, and Pedro. Nila is survived by her siblings, Iris and Adalgisa; children, Manuel Alonzo and his wife, Anna, Lorena Alonzo-Chafart and her husband, Edward, Miriam Burt and her husband, Christopher, and Virginia Alonzo; grandchildren, Manuel Chafart, Katerina Chafart, Jacqueline Chafart, Vienna Chafart, Penelope Burt, Violet Burt, and Jane Krebs; all of whom she loved con su corazón, su alma, y su vida.

Visitation will be held at Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, 100 Elton-Adelphia Road (Route 524), Freehold Township on Thursday, June 27, 2024 from 4:00 to 8:00 PM. Relatives and friends are invited to attend her 11:00 AM funeral service at the funeral home on Friday, June 28, 2024.
