Obituary of Sheela Malik

Sheela Malik, 81, of Freehold Township passed away peacefully on Monday, February 5, 2024 at the Hospital of University of Pennsylvania.  Sheela was born in Meerut, Uttar Pradesh, India.  She had come to the United States in 1963 and then had lived in Kenya and Jamaica.  Sheela returned to the United States in 1986 settling in Floral Park, NY.  Along with her husband, they retired to the Riviera Community in Freehold Township in 2006, where she was a member of the Ladies Book Club and known throughout her community.  Sheela retired as the Director of Education of Early Childhood Psychology at the Presbyterian Church in Rosedale, NY and previously worked at JOMA in Brooklyn.   She was an active member of the Freehold Township Senior Center.  Spending time with family and friends is what Sheela loved the most, especially traveling the world and taking cruises.

Sheela was a 15-year lung transplant survivor, receiving her gift of life in 2008.  Despite the illness, she continued to be a vibrant and positive person who was actively involved in all her community and encouraged everyone to have that zest for life.

Sheela is survived by her husband, Ranvir Singh Malik, PhD of Freehold Township, NJ; children, Dr. Nisha Malik and her husband, Dr. Kenneth Yang of Colts Neck, NJ, Laveena Malik and her husband, Ashish Singh, PhD of Southbury, CT, Sanjay Malik and his wife, Manisha Malik of Summit, NJ; grandchildren, Adrienne Yang, Natalie Yang, Nina Singh, Rohan Singh, and Yash Malik; brothers, Ret. Gen. Jitendera Singh and his wife, Kusum of India and Ret. Gen. Bhupinder Singh and his wife, Winnie of India; sister, Zozila Singh and her husband, Yatish Singh of India; and many nieces, nephews and dear friends.

A memorial gathering will be held at the Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, 100 Elton-Adelphia Road (Route 524), Freehold Township on Saturday, February 10, 2024 from 3:00 to 5:00 PM.
