Obituary of William J. Lyons

William “Bill” Lyons, 78, of Freehold passed away at his home on Friday, January 5, 2024.  He was born and raised in Newark and had lived in Howell, Florida, Hightstown before settling in Freehold in 2018. Bill proudly served his country as a Sergeant in the United States Airforce from 1964 to 1968. His tireless contributions to his communities are too numerous to describe. Bill was a proud member of Hightstown Elks and a volunteer for the Make A Wish Foundation. Always active, Bill had many interests including sailing, golfing, and the New York Giants. He was happiest when at the beach alongside his wife. Bill will be most remembered for the kindness and warmth he exuded throughout his life.

He is predeceased by his parents, Thomas, and Marie Lyons. Bill is survived by his wife, Michelle Lyons, of 33 years, with whom he shared a storybook romance; five children, Courtenay Lyons of Florida, Diane Holzlein and her husband, Seth of Virgina, Jennifer Krasnansky and her husband, Paul of New York, Jeannine Lyons of Arizona and Melissa Bennis and her husband, Chris of Freehold; eight grandchildren and one great grandchild.

A Memorial Gathering will be held on Saturday, March 23, 2024 at the Hightstown Elks Lodge #1955, 110 Hickory Corner Road, East Windsor.
