Martha Harris

Obituary of Martha Harris

Martha Harris, 85, of Freehold Township passed away on Saturday, December 2, 2023 at CentraState Medical Center, Freehold Township.  She was born and raised in Manhattan on 10th Avenue and attended Sacred Heart School.  Martha also lived in North Bergen and Leonardo before settling here in 1993. In her younger days, she loved going to the beach.  Martha worked as an usher on Broadway where she experienced a magical theatrical experience.  Though she saw the same shows over and over, she could often be found watching those shows as movies in later years, of which The Ten Commandments and Ben-Hur were among her favorites.  She later enjoyed a career as an administrative assistant for the AV Department of Brookdale Community College in Lincroft.  Martha was an animal lover who also enjoyed watching Price is Right and the soaps.  She loved a good sale whether she was shopping in stores or on QVC.

Martha is survived by her son, Kevin Harris of Freehold Township; daughter, Kelly Harris of Bradley Beach; and siblings, Edmund O’Connell of Naples, FL, Patricia Peragine of Boca Raton, FL, Dorothy Maher of Dunedin, FL, and Joyce Grogan of Tinton Falls; and many nieces and nephews.

A memorial gathering will be held at the Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, 100 Elton-Adelphia Road (Route 524), Freehold Township on Tuesday, December 12, 2023 from 3:00 to 6:00 PM with her memorial service to follow at 6:00 PM.  Inurnment will be at the convenience of the family.  For those who desire, memorial contribution may be made to the Monmouth County SPCA, 260 Wall Street, Eatontown, NJ 07724.  For service information or to leave condolence messages for the family, visit www.claytonfuneralhome.com
