Obituary of Raymond W. Malaspina

 

Raymond W. Malaspina, 91, of Freehold Township passed away on Saturday, December 2, 2023 at CentraState Medical Center, Freehold Township.  He was born in Brooklyn, NY, raised in the Bay Ridge section and settled here in 1964.  Ray served proudly in the United States Navy during the Korean War.  Prior to his retirement in 1984 he worked as a mechanic for the New York City Department of Sanitation for over 30 years.  Roller skating was huge part of his life first as a competitive skater and also as an instructor at the Deptford Skating Center and Evesham Skating Rink.  He was also a parishioner of St. Rose of Lima, Catholic Church, a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus and a private pilot out of Marlboro Airport. 

Raymond was predeceased by his sister, Catherine Andersen.  He is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Arlene Malaspina; daughter, Diana Swinarski and her husband, Donald of Freehold Borough; son, Raymond Malaspina; grandchildren, Suzanne Swinarski, Raymond Malaspina, III (Courtney) and Chloe Malaspina (Sal Monteforte); and two great grandchildren, Steven Monteforte and Valentina Monteforte. 

Visitation will be held at the Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, 100 Elton-Adelphia Road, Freehold Township on Wednesday, December 6, 2023 from 3:00 to 7:00 PM.  Relatives and friends are invited to attend his 12:00 PM Funeral Mass on Thursday, December 7, 2023 at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, 16 McLean Street, Freehold.  Interment will follow in Brigadier General Wm. C. Doyle NJ Veterans Cemetery, 350 Province Line Road, Arneytown. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations in memory of Ray be made to Ronald McDonald House, Monmouth Medical Center, 145 Somerset Street, New Brunswick, NJ 08909.
