Margaret Irhin

Obituary of Margaret Irhin

Margarita (Margaret) Irhin, 86, passed away peacefully on November 23, 2023 in her home in Fort Mill, South Carolina.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband and brother.

She was born near Vinnytsia, Ukraine in 1937 and fled to Germany at the age of 3 with her family during World War ll. She lived in several places until the age of 17 after which she immigrated to the United States with her mother, aunt, and brother.

Margaret lived in Paterson, New Jersey first, then moved to Boston, Massachusetts and worked at MIT between 1956 and 1960.  In 1961, she married Alex Irhin, first living in Brooklyn, New York and then they bought their first home in Newark, New Jersey. There they would start a family and have three sons: Steve, Michael, and Alexis.

In 1968, the family moved to open-spaced Flanders, New Jersey where they would raise the boys into the 80’s.  Margaret loved being a mother, cooking, reading, and taking care of her family.  Later she became a grandmother and with the same passion took care of her grandkids as often as possible.

After losing her husband to cancer, she moved to the Carolinas, where she enjoyed the warmer weather and retirement living until her final day of rest.  Her battle was with heart failure, but she was independent and determined to live her life until the Lord said it was time.  Most important to her was her family and she will forever be remembered as a loving and devoted mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend.

Margaret is survived by her sons, Steve Irhin (Tammy), Michael Irhin, Alexis Irhin (Karen), and her four grandchildren: Nicholas Irhin, Katrina Irhin, Morgan Irhin and Alex Irhin.
