Obituary of Vera Vince

Vera Vince, of Farmingdale, passed away on March 1, 2013. She was born on October 24, 1919, the daughter of George Matthews and Florence Applegate Matthews and lived in her hometown her entire life. She was proud of her father and his accomplishments, and left college to assist him in his automobile business, later to become Matthews Chevrolet in Farmingdale, which she then ran with her husband, Al until their retirement. She remained an active and capable business woman in retirement. Vera was a survivor of multiple cancers, and exemplified surviving with dignity and grace. She had a sharp mind and kept it until the end. She was gracious and giving and a wonderful parent, grandparent and great grandparent. She and Alex Vince married on August 25, 1940 and he passed away in January 2003 after a full and rich life together. Vera is survived by her son, George and his wife, Louise, of Lincoln, Vermont; her daughter, Virginia Yakow her husband, Bill, of Farmingdale; her grandchildren, Erik Yakow and his wife, Lisa of Howell and Meghann Generosi and her husband, Giancarlo of Somers Point; and her great grandchildren, Alexa, Erik, Jr., and Mason Yakow and, Alex, Domenic and Zackery Generosi. One of her greatest joys was to have all the grandchildren together at her house and to watch and listen to them play and eat together. Vera was a lifelong member of the First United Methodist Church of Farmingdale. During her life she had many wonderful and close friends some of whom are in that special other place to greet her, and some who she will be there to welcome when they come. Visiting hours will be at the Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, 100 Elton-Adelphia Road (Route 524) Freehold Township on Thursday, March 7, 2013 from 5:00 to 8:00 PM. Relatives and friends are invited to attend her 11:00 AM Funeral Service at First United Methodist Church of Farmingdale, 8 Main Street, Farmingdale with the Rev. Dr. Wayne Richards officiating. Interment will follow in Maplewood Cemetery, Freehold.
