Obituary of Daniel Chong

Daniel Chong 莊達宜, 74, of Brick passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, August 21, 2022 at home.  Dan was born in New York City and was raised in Neptune and Bradley Beach.  He met his wife Linda in Hong Kong and they settled in Brick in 1969.  Along with his wife,  Dan owned and operated the House of Chong in Brick and Middletown.  Inspiration for House of Chong came from years of experience from his parents, Kai and Helen Chong. With much help from family, friends, and members of the local community Dan Chong made HOC the trusted source for Quality American Chinese Food in Monmouth and Ocean County.  This strong work ethic led him to his charitable giving’s.  Always caring for his fellow man and his Chinese heritage, Dan donated funds for a school to be built in China which bears his name even today.

Mr. Chong was predeceased by his parents, Kai Chong and Ho Siu Ying; a brother-in-law, Louis Wong; and a sister-in-law, Betty Chong.  He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Linda Chong; four children, Edward Chong and his wife, Elize of Brick, Katherine Ho and her husband, Allan of Palo Alto, CA, Karen Thomas and her husband, Robert, Jr. of Toms River, and Daniel K. Chong of Holmdel; eleven grandchildren, Austin, Kaila, Edward Eli, Ethan, Kaitlyn, Matthew, Jason, Mei, Ben, Kai, and Masa; two brothers, Peter Chong and his wife, Alice and Raymond Chong; mother-in-law, Lin Wong; in-laws, John Wong and his wife, Angela, Amy Wong-Leong and her husband, Richard, Madie Wong, Alex Wong and his wife, Stella, Diane Hung and her husband, Andrew, Steven Wong and his wife, Vicki, Wendy Wheaton and her husband, Paul, Stacy Cheah and her husband, Simon and Kenny Wong and his wife, Ruby; and 28 nieces and nephews.

A visitation will be held at the Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, 100 Elton-Adelphia Road (Route 524), Freehold Township on Friday, August 26, 2022 from 4:00 to 8:00 PM.  Inurnment will be at the convenience of the family in Ocean County Memorial Park.  For information, directions or condolence messages to the family, visit www.claytonfuneralhome.com
