Obituary of Anthony P. Catananzi

Anthony P. Catananzi, 86, of Howell passed away on Wednesday, April 6, 2022 at Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune.  He was born, raised and had lived in Jersey City until settling here in 1987.  Anthony was a proud veteran having served in the United States Army and then joined the Teamsters Union 641 working as a driver for Yellow Freight in Avenel until his retirement in 1997.  His biggest accomplishment was building his own house and his beautiful family.  He enjoyed rides to the beach, trips to Atlantic City, and saltwater fishing and crabbing at the Jersey Shore, as well as hunting.  More recently he went to physical therapy at IPT in Howell.  Known to his loved ones as The Don, Pops, Grandpa and Papa, Anthony had a presence when walking into a room. He will be missed beyond measure.

Anthony was predeceased by his loving wife, Florence Catananzi; parents, Anthony and Catherine Catananzi; two brothers, Alfred Catananzi and Steven Martin; and three sisters, Theresa Catananzi, Anna Maria Teresa Catananzi, and Catherine Cortez.  He is survived by four children, Anthony Catananzi, Jr. and his wife, Kathy of Fords, Frederick Catananzi and his wife, Sandy of Rahway, Lisa Toscani and her husband, John of Freehold Township, and Christopher Catananzi and his wife, Krista of Browns Mills; eight grandchildren, Jessica Catananzi, Merissa Toscani, Louis Toscani, Francesca Catananzi, Alaina Catananzi, Stephanie Catananzi, Delaney Catananzi and Anthony Catananzi; two great grandchildren, Aiden and Aubrie; and one sister, Eleanor Kostic of CT.

Visitation will be held at the Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, 100 Elton-Adelphia Road (Route 524), Freehold Township on Sunday, April 10, 2022 from 1:00 to 5:00 PM.  Relatives and friends are invited to attend his 11:00 AM funeral service at the funeral home on Monday, April 11, 2022.  Interment will follow in St. Mary of the Lake, 1 Honey Locust Drive, Lakewood.  For information, directions, or condolence messages to the family, visit www.claytonfuneralhome.com
