Obituary of Scott Smith

Scott E. Smith, 57, beloved father and accomplished banker, died peacefully on December 24th. He was employed at several large banks during his lifetime, including Bank of America, Chase, Citibank and Chemical Bank. At one point early in his career, he was recognized as the youngest person to be in charge of the largest Chemical Bank branch on Wall Street. Born on May 27, 1955 in Huntington, New York, Scott was the son of Franklin Avery Smith, an electronics engineer, and Shirley Emmons Smith, who taught junior high school English. Scott graduated from Hartwick College, New York, with a B.A. degree in Economics. He married Susan Sapienza in October 1984 with whom he had three children - all boys. In 2001 he moved with his family to Cream Ridge, NJ. In his spare time, he coached soccer for his sons' teams and was also appointed treasurer of the Upper Freehold Regional Education Foundation, raising funds for the local schools. Scott is survived by Susan Sapienza Smith and their three sons, Eric Smith, a Peace Corps volunteer, Alex Smith, an MFA candidate at LIU, and Max Smith, senior at Allentown High School, and his sister, Leslie Kim Smith, of Alexandria, Virginia.
