Obituary of Maria Candeias Moreira

Maria Candeias Moreira, 71, passed away on Thursday, June 3, 2021 at Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune. She was born and raised in Portugal, and came to the United States in 1986. Maria lived in Long Branch and Howell before retiring to Portugal. After several years of retirement, Maria came back to the United States, settling in Freehold. She was a dedicated wife and mother to her children but she was a “mama bear” to everyone she knew. Maria enjoyed cooking, gardening and sewing, which she excelled at.

Maria is survived by her husband, Armando Moreira of Freehold; sons, Luis Moreira and his wife, Fabiana of Lehigh, Florida and Val Moreira of Freehold; and grandchildren, Evan Moreira, Alexander Moreira and Leah Moreira.

Visitation will be held at the Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, 100 Elton-Adelphia Road (Route 524), Freehold Township on Monday, June 7, 2021 from 4:00 to 8:00 PM. Relatives and friends are invited to attend her 9:30 AM Funeral Mass on Tuesday, June 8, 2021 at Church of St. Veronica, 4215 U.S. 9, Howell. Interment will be private.
