Obituary of John W. Scharr

John W. Scharr, 84, of Howell passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 28, 2021 at Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune.  Jack was born in Leonia and was a lifelong resident of Jersey City.  He just moved to Monmouth County in 2019.  Jack worked in the accounting department for Western Electric (now AT&T) in Kearney for over thirty-five years until his retirement.  He enjoyed listening to music, had a devotion to animals and relished in the time he spent in his backyard tending to his flower garden. 

Jack was predeceased by his two brothers, James and William Scharr; and his sister, Kathleen Reilly.  He is survived by his sister, Linda Chatterton of Howell; a sister-in-law, Bernadette Scharr of Avon-by-the-Sea; three nieces, Melissa Dietz, Denise Doherty and Ellen Kobil; a grand nephew; and five grand nieces.

A visitation will be held at the Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, 100 Elton-Adelphia Road (Route 524), Freehold Township on Tuesday, March 30, 2021 from 4:00 to 6:00 PM.  Relatives and friends are invited to attend his 11:00 AM Funeral Mass on Wednesday, March 31, 2021 at Our Lady of Victories Catholic Church, 2217 John F. Kennedy Blvd, Jersey City, NJ 07304.  Interment will follow in Holy Name Cemetery and Mausoleum, Jersey City, NJ.   For the safety of the public and our staff, we are asking everyone to help us adhere to the CDC guidelines. Facemasks will be required.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Jack’s name may be made to the Monmouth County SPCA, 260 Wall Street, Eatontown, NJ 07724.
