Miriam Eby

Obituary of Miriam C. Eby

Miriam C. Eby, age 75, passed away peacefully at home on March 11, 2021.  She was born in Harrisburg, PA on November 14, 1945 to the Rev. James and Emily Collom. She attended schools in Beacon, NY and Butler, NJ before graduating from Kindley High School in Bermuda.  She graduated with a degree in English from Eastern Nazarene College and a graduate degree in Special Education from the College of New Jersey. She taught in the South River, Upper Freehold Regional and East Windsor Regional school districts prior to retiring to raise her family.

Miriam was a voracious reader, often times reading one to three paperback books in a day.  She loved to travel and was able to visit all fifty States, several foreign countries and recently checked off one of her bucket list goals to visit Paris and take a pre-pandemic river cruise up to Normandy. She loved the ocean and would often drive to the shore just to watch the waves roll in.  One of the later joys in her life was having and interacting with her grandchildren.  She looked forward to their visits and closely followed their progress in sports and in school.

Miriam had a great faith in God and was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Freehold. She loved to sing throughout her life singing alto in trios, choruses and choirs.

She is survived by her loving husband, Chuck, of 53 years; her daughters, Lauren Porambo and her husband, Dan of High Bridge, NJ, Karen Carvalho and her husband, Dave of Lithia, FL, and Amanda Eby and her husband, Greg Hahn, of Van Nuys, CA; and grandchildren, Lexi and Paul Porambo, Emily and William Carvalho.  In addition, she is survived by her siblings, Jim Collom and his wife, Marilyn of Sahuarita, AZ, Maridel Chase and her husband, Arnie of Mesa, AZ and Paul Collom and his wife, Vickey of Page, SC. She is also survived by her brother-in-law, Ronald Eby of Plymouth, MA; sister-in-law, Cheryl Ernest of Overland Park, KS; mother-in-law, Ruth Eby of Middletown, NJ; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
