Obituary of James G. Russell

James G. Russell, 92, of Freehold Township passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, February 25, 2021.  James was born and raised in Glasgow, Scotland, UK.  He had lived in Canada and came to the United States in 1957 settling in Elizabeth.  James moved to Freehold in 1975.  He retired as a plasterer for the International Union of Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers, Local 18, Elizabeth and was a member of the AzureMasada Lodge No. 22 F&AM, Cranford.  Taking great pride in his Scottish heritage, James had a true passion for the game of Golf.    He also was a fan of the NY Rangers and Manchester United F.C.  James was a devoted husband, loving father, caring grandfather, and adoring great-grandfather, but better known as “Poppy.”

James was predeceased by his wife, Catherine Helen Russell in 1981; two sons, Graham Russell in 2016 and Allan Russell in 2018; and his faithful canine companion, “T”.  He is survived by his daughter, Catherine Reevey and her husband, Henry of Freehold Township; a daughter-in-law, Sharon Russell of Freehold Township; two grandchildren, Heather Russell and her husband, Chris Sanders of Brick and James Russell of Freehold Township; and a great-grandson, Dante.

A visitation will be held at the Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, 100 Elton-Adelphia Road (Route 524), Freehold Township on Wednesday, March 3, 2021 from 4:00 to 6:00 PM with his funeral service to follow at 6:00 PM.  Interment will be private.  For the safety of the public, we are asking everyone to help us adhere to the CDC guidelines.
