Obituary of Roy C. Baker

Roy C. Baker, 89, of Highland Park passed away peacefully on Monday, February 8, 2021, surrounded by family and love. He was born and raised in Brooklyn, lived in Long Island, and then moved to New Jersey, living in Freehold and Highland Park. He graduated form Brooklyn Technical High School, received his Bachelor’s Degree from Cornell University in 1953, and his Grad degree in Psychology from the University of Pennsylvania in 1957. Roy began his career in advertising, working for prestigious agencies such as Grey Advertising where he helped pioneer the practice of applying psychological insights to advertising strategy. He then worked at Johnson & Johnson and Jack Ross Associates in market research, before changing careers to work as a financial planner for over 30 years. In that role, Roy made a point of giving extra care to elderly clients, even those without big estates, and clients loved him so much it was not unusual for them to make him dinner when he visited their homes for consultations. He bravely served for the United States Army from 1953-1955. He served as Treasurer of the Freehold chapter of Habitat for Humanity for many years. He enjoyed football, fishing, bowling and writing, leaving behind a precious, handwritten book of 654 witticisms (his wisdom and wit was legendary).

He was predeceased by his parents, Irving and Anna Baker; and his beloved wife, Kim Baker. Roy is survived by his loving life partner, Lois Glasser; daughter, Eva Baker; son, Jordan Baker; son-in-law, Shawn Savage; “step-children,” Frederick Glasser and Heather Weiss; grandchildren, Brittany, Cassidy, Dante, Everette, Gabrielle, Joshua, and Mariam; and, great grandchildren, Breon and Mylo.

All arrangements were private and under the direction of the Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, Freehold Township. For those who desire, donations may be made in memory of Roy to the Associated Humane Societies-NJ2960 Shafto Rd, Tinton Falls, NJ 07753.
