Obituary of Christine D'Onofrio
Christine D’Onofrio, 87, of Howell Township passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, September 15, 2020. She was born in Nottingham, England where she met and married the love of her life Americus “John” D’Onofrio and started their family. Christine came to America on the “Queen Mary” ocean liner with her husband and young children in 1956 when they moved to Brooklyn, NY. She and John settled in Howell Township in 1958 to raise their family. Christine loved to help others and alongside of her husband, was a volunteer for the Monmouth County Office of Aging Advisory Council, an active member of Howell Township VFW post #96, and a lifelong member of the Daughters of the British Empire Society. She believed in giving back and charity, regularly donating to and fundraising for the Deborah Heart and Lung Hospital Foundation. Christine could often be found in her flower garden or knitting at home with her family. She and her husband were world travelers venturing across the globe. Some of their favorite destinations included England, Scotland, Spain, Hawaii, and Alaska. The memories of these trips, knitted keepsakes, and time spent in her garden will be treasured by her family and friends.
She was predeceased by her beloved husband of 64 years, John in 2017. Christine is survived by her children, Michael D’Onofrio of Manasquan; Christopher D’Onofrio and his wife, Susan of Freehold; David D’Onofrio and his wife, Rhonda of Clarksboro; Susan D’Onofrio of Freehold; Tina Cofka and her husband, Mark of Manasquan; and Lisa D’Onofrio of Pennington; and her grandchildren, Izabella D’Onofrio and Vaughn D’Onofrio.
A visitation will be held at the Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, 100 Elton-Adelphia Road (Route 524), Freehold Township on Sunday, September 20, 2020 from 12:00 to 3:00 PM. For the safety of the public and our staff, we are asking everyone to help us adhere to the CDC guidelines. Facemasks will be required. Relatives and friends are invited to attend her 11:00 AM funeral service at the funeral home on Monday, September 21, 2020. Interment will follow in the Brigadier General William C. Doyle NJ Veterans Cemetery, 350 Province Line Road, Arneytown.
