Obituary of Anthony Joseph Butto

Anthony Joseph Butto, Jr., 63, of Howell passed away suddenly on Thursday, July 23, 2020 at home surrounded by his family. He was born at the Naval Hospital, Saint Albans, Queens, raised in Brooklyn, Bad Kreuznach, West Germany and the West Brighton and Mariners’ sections of Staten Island before settling in New Jersey in 2001. Anthony worked as an Electrician for IBEW Local Union 164. Anthony was scientifically intellectual, but also had a fondness for reading science fiction. He was a man with an engineering aptitude with experience and certifications ranging from installing corporate audio-visual conference and security systems, refurbishing large building electrical power systems to preparing business proposals as a supervisor, among others. He loved to read and write and had a passion for astronomy and space.

In his younger years, Anthony played football for Port Richmond High School on Staten Island which led to his support of the Jets, Giants, and Eagles. He could often be found tinkering with or cruising on his Harley.  Anthony was truly selfless; he did all he was capable of for his wife and daughter, and especially adored his daughter, Sabrina, and would often subordinate his own personal interests for them. He was known for his sense of humor and left an impression on everyone he met. He will be missed by all who knew him. Above all, he was a devoted husband, father, brother, and uncle.

He was predeceased by his parents, Sergeant Anthony Butto, Sr., US Army (Ret.) and Dorothy Butto (Pucciarelli). Anthony is survived by his beloved wife of 20 years, Carolyn Butto of Howell; daughter, Sabrina Butto of Howell; brothers, Colonel Robert Butto, US Army (Ret.) and his wife, Patricia (Siminski) of Fort Washington, Maryland and Jack Butto Burchman and his husband, Andrew Burchman of Staten Island; nephews, Robert James Butto, Jr. and John Butto; and niece/goddaughter, Stephanie Butto.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his 11:00 AM Funeral Mass on Thursday, August 27, 2020 at St. Gabriel’s Historic Church, 100 N Main Street, Marlboro Township, NJ 07746. Interment will take place in Forest Green Park Cemetery, 535 Texas Road, Morganville, NJ 07751.
