Obituary of Herbert W. McKinley

Herbert W. McKinley, 84, passed away on Friday, May 22, 2020.   He was born on January 12, 1936 in East Orange, NJ. Herb anxiously looked forward to yearly cruises, especially to Bermuda.  He was a Civil War buff, a “garage tinkerer”, an avid reader and a dedicated walker.  Herb proudly served in the United States Navy between 1955 and 1957 aboard the USS Lindenwald, LSD6 and the USS Hainsworth, DD700.  He was member of the Tin Can Sailors Assn. of NJ and now remains on watch with the Supreme Commander on High. In 1994 he married Alyce Neubauer-McKinley and remained happily married and living in Surrey Downs, Freehold, NJ.

 

He was predeceased by his first wife, Marilyn Minard.  Herb will be remembered with love by his wife Alyce; sons, John McKinley of FL, and Lee McKinley and his wife, Fran and their children, Kate and Pat; Alyce’s children and grandchildren, Jim Neubauer and his wife, Judy of Pennsylvania, John Neubauer and his wife, Donna of Florida, Steven Neubauer of Maryland; and Doug, Laura, Amanda, Daniel, Tyler, Jessica, John, Louis and Daniel; a sister-in-law, Diana; and many loving family members and dear friends.

 

Due to COVID-19 restrictions, private services will be held for immediate family members.  All arrangements are under the direction of the Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, Freehold Township.  A public memorial gathering in celebration of Herb’s life will be held at a later date.  Contributions in memory of Herb may be made to the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis TN 38105.
