Obituary of William Cogan

William Murphy Cogan, 88, of Farmingdale, NJ and West Palm Beach, Fla., formerly of West Orange and Long Beach Township, NJ, passed into eternal life surrounded by his loving family, on November 4, 2012. Bill was born in Glen Ridge, NJ and was a graduate of West Orange High School and Florida Southern College. He worked as an insurance adjuster for Utica Mutual Insurance Company for over 40 years. Bill, a veteran of the U.S. Navy, proudly served his country during World War II on the U.S.S. Tutuila in the Pacific Far East. He was a member of the V.F.W., the Holy Name Society, and a communicant of St. Catherine's Church in Farmingdale. Bill, an avid football fan, rarely missed his beloved Giant's games. Bill will always be remembered for his love and devotion to family and his wonderful sense of humor. He was predeceased by his parents, Katherine and John Cogan and three brothers, Kenneth, Thomas, and Walter Cogan. He is survived by his beloved wife of 49 years, Agnes McLaughlin Nolan, and three children, James Nolan, Francis Nolan, and Barbara Lamb; a sister, Mary Daniels, 8 nieces and nephews, 12 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren. Visiting will be held at the Clayton and McGirr Funeral home, 100 Elton Adelphia Road, Freehold Township, NJ on Wednesday, November 7, 2012, from 2:00-6:00 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial at St. Catherine of Sienna Catholic Church, 31 Asbury Road, Farmingdale, N.J. November 8 at 10:00 A.M. Entombment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Hanover, N.J.
