Ilse Schroeder, 93, of Jackson passed away on Tuesday, January 29, 2019 at Bartley Healthcare. She was born and raised in Wismar, Germany and also lived in Berlin, Kiel and Hamburg before moving to the United States in 1961 with her husband and children. Ilse lived on Staten Island for many years and retired in Sacramento, CA before moving back to the east coast in Jackson. While in Germany, she worked as a pharmacist’s assistant at Hirsch Apotheke in Wismar. After moving to the United States, Ilse worked as the director of activities at Carmel Richmond Nursing Home on Staten Island. She loved flowers and her garden was her pride and joy. Ilse enjoyed needle point, embroidering, and won awards for her extraordinary work. She was active in the Senior Olympics in Staten Island and enjoyed aqua-aerobics and walking.
Ilse was predeceased by her husband, Eckart Schroeder; brother, Fritz and his wife, Annalotte Schroeder; and nephew, Rainer Schroeder. She is survived by her daughters, Sabine Schroeder of San Rafael, CA and Anke Girolamo and her husband, Carl of Howell; grandchildren, Scott Seaward and his wife, Becca of Davis, CA, Karl Girolamo and his wife, Alissa of Los Angeles, CA, and Kris Girolamo of Tinton Falls; nephew, Thomas Schroeder of Germany; sisters-in-law, Doris Schroeder of Sacramento, CA and Ursula Schroeder of Sacramento, CA and their children.
A memorial gathering will be held at the Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, 100 Elton-Adelphia Road (Route 524), Freehold Township on Saturday, February 2, 2019 from 12:00 Noon to 3:00 PM with her memorial service to follow at 3:00 PM.
