Obituary of Anthony Bertone

Anthony Bertone, 90, of Freehold Township passed away on Sunday, December 2, 2018 at The Manor, Freehold Township.  Tony was born in Jersey City and had lived in North Bergen and West Milford before taking up residence in the Silvermead Community,  Freehold Township in 2012.  He worked as a tractor trailer driver for over 35 years for Red Star Express, Newark.  Tony was a member of the Teamsters Retired Club and the Monmouth County Scroll Saw Group.  An avid bowler, he was a regular at Howell Lanes, bowling up until six months ago.  At Silvermead, Tony played bocce, shuffleboard and billiards, and belonged to the breakfast club.    In his spare time, he loved fishing, hunting and watching the Yankees. 

Tony was preceded in death by his beloved wife of sixty-seven years, Mary Bertone; brother, Louis Bertone; and sister, Concetta Burlington.  Tony is survived by four sons, Anthony Bertone and his wife, Cheryl of Lexington, SC, Michael Bertone and his wife, Judy of Monroe, Glenn Bertone of Bethlehem, PA and Dr. David Bertone and his wife, Cecilia of Freehold Township; seven grandchildren, Alison Isiminger and her husband, Crispulo, Tracy Matherly and her husband, David, Michael L. Bertone and his wife, Shannon, Steven Bertone and his wife, Shanah, Ryan Bertone, Justin Bertone and Lindsey Bertone;  seven great grandchildren, Alexander, Christian, Colton, Mia, Brooke, Bianca and Baylee; sister-in-law, Fran Hamill of Wall; loving friend, Mabelle Villa of Manalapan; and many nieces and nephews. 

A visitation will be held at the Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, 100 Elton-Adelphia Road (Route 524), Freehold Township on Thursday, December 6, 2018 from 4:00 to 8:00 PM.  Relatives and friends are invited to gather at the funeral home at 9:00  AM on Friday, December 7 , 2018 for the procession to his 10:00 AM Funeral Mass at the St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, 16 McLean Street, Freehold.  Entombment will follow in Madonna Cemetery & Chapel Mausoleum, Fort Lee.  For those who desire, memorial contributions in Tony’s memory may be made to the American Heart Association, One Union Street, Suite 301, Robbinsville, NJ 08691.  For information, directions or condolence messages to the family, visit www.claytonfuneralhome.com
