Obituary of Gene Grogul

Gene Grogul, 79, of Jackson passed away on Tuesday, May 22, 2018 at home surrounded by his family.  He was born in Ukraine.  Gene came to the United States and settled in New York City.  He lived in Astoria, Queens before moving to Hazlet, New Jersey.  He had lived in Howell, Barnegat and Waretown before moving to Jackson in 2016.  Gene served in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War.  He was a dedicated firefighter for the City of Orange Fire Department, retiring in 1994, and a volunteer firefighter for North Centerville, Hazlet.  Gene also had a Coca-Cola route in Asbury Park and New Brunswick.  He enjoyed traveling with his wife, Madeline, and spending time on his boat fishing and crabbing in Barnegat Bay.  Gene was a jack of all trades and truly loved his family.

Gene is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Madeline Grogul of Jackson; children, Michael Grogul and his wife, AnnaMarie of Staten Island, Larissa Colangelo and her husband, David of Jackson, and Christine Volpe and her husband, Anthony of Jackson; grandchildren, Kristy Morizio and her husband, Michael, Danielle Colangelo, Alyssa Colangelo, Joseph Mellino, and Nicholas Mellino; great granddaughter, Krista; brother, Leo Grogul and his wife, Patricia of Somerset; son-in-law, Paul Mellino; and many nieces, nephews, and dear friends.

A visitation will be held at the Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, 100 Elton-Adelphia Road (Route 524), Freehold Township on Thursday, May 24, 2018 from 2:00 to 4:00 PM and 7:00 to 9:00 PM.  Relatives and friends are invited to gather at the funeral home on Friday, May 25, 2018 at 9:00 AM for the procession to his 10:00 AM Funeral Mass at the Co-Cathedral of St. Robert Bellarmine, 61 Georgia Road, Freehold Township.  Entombment will follow in St. Mary of the Lake Cemetery, Lakewood.
