Obituary of Michael Fazzi

Michael Fazzi, 84, of Freehold Township, died at the Manor Health and Rehabilitation Center in Freehold Township on Sunday, November 5.

He was born in Queens, N.Y., to Italian immigrant parents and grew up in the Long Island City section of the borough. After marriage, he raised a family in the Midwood section of Brooklyn, N.Y., later moving to New Jersey.

Michael was an airman in the U.S. Air Force and a veteran of the Korean War, serving from 1952 to 1956. 

He worked for Consolidated Edison in New York City for 39 years as a meter reader, a splicer and an emergency services technician. In 1983, he was awarded a heroism citation by the company for saving eight tenants of a burning apartment building in the Park Slope section of Brooklyn. He retired in 1995.

He was a member of the Samuel Cardinal Stritch Council-Knights of Columbus in Brooklyn, N.Y., and a parishioner of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Freehold Borough.

In retirement, he enjoyed painting, arts and crafts, reading and spending time with family. He was also known for his great love for dogs. 

Michael was predeceased by his parents, Emilio and Antoinette Fazzi. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Angela Fazzi of Freehold Township; two sons, Raymond Fazzi and his wife, Diana MacIntosh of Freehold Township, and Vincent Fazzi and his wife, Cindy Fazzi of Sacramento, CA; one daughter, Christine Cernera and her husband, Joseph Cernera of Freehold Borough; one sister, Veronica Ulino of Queens, NY; three grandchildren, Andrew and Nicholas Cernera, and Nina Fazzi; two step-grandsons, Joey Cernera and Omar Zaater; and seven nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his 10:00 AM Funeral Mass on Wednesday, November 8, 2017 at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, 16 McLean Street, Freehold.  Interment will follow in St. Rose of Lima Catholic Cemetery, Freehold Township. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Michael’s name may be made to the Monmouth SPCA, 260 Wall Street, Eatontown, NJ 07724. For information, directions or condolence messages to the family, visit www.claytonfuneralhome.com.
