Obituary of Helen Zari

Helen A. Zari, 86, of Crestwood Village I, Whiting passed away surrounded by her family on Tuesday, May 8, 2012 at Community Medical Center, Toms River. Helen was born in Mishawaka, Indiana, raised in New York City, and moved to Howell in 1944 before settling in Whiting in 1997. She retired from the Department of the Army, CECOM, Fort Monmouth in 1984 after twenty years of service as a Personnel Assistant. Helen was a member of St. Alexander Nevsky R.O. Church, Howell. She was predeceased by her parents, Alexander & Tatiana Toler and her husband of sixty-four years and former Chief of the Southard Fire Department, Peter Zari. Helen is survived by her son, Daniel P. Zari and his wife, Sharon of South Toms River; a daughter, Christina Zari of Whiting; two granddaughters, Danielle Pomeroy and her husband, Curtis of Bayville and Shannon Barney and her husband, Chad of Jackson; a great-grandson, Jeffry Pomeroy of Bayville, who in his great-grandfathers footsteps is a firefighter at the Pinewald Pioneer Volunteer Fire Company, Berkeley Twp.; and two sisters, Anne T. Dobson of Whiting and Julia T. Preis of Allentown. Relatives and friends are invited to attend her Pannyhida at the St. Alexander Nevsky Cathedral, 200 Alexander Ave., Howell, NJ 07731 on Friday, May 11, 2012 at 7:00 PM. Her 10:30 AM funeral service will be at the Cathedral on Saturday, May 12, 2012. Interment will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery, Lakewood. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in memory of Helen may be made to St. Alexander Nevsky Cathedral. Arrangements by Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, Freehold Township.
