Obituary of Joseph Filosa

Joseph G. Filosa, 49, of Freehold passed away suddenly on Thursday, September 24, 2015 at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in Hamilton with his family by his side. Joe was born and had lived on Staten Island before settling in Freehold with his wife in 1993. After graduating from the City College of New York, he worked for CB & I Environmental Infrastructure as a geologist for over twenty years, and was a member of the Geological Society, as well as the Planetary Society. Joseph loved helping others, and dedicated his time as a volunteer member of the Coast Guard Auxiliary Branch 1601 in Pt. Pleasant and as well as the Boy Scouts. Joe was a fisherman and boater who listened to classic rock. Although the salt of the sea ran deep through Joe's veins, his heart belonged to his loving family and adoring friends. Joseph is survived by his wife of twenty three years, Christine M. Filosa and their children, Allison and Matthew Filosa; his mother, Marilyn Filosa of Staten Island; his sisters, Janet Filosa of Brooklyn, Judy Hunt and her husband, David, of Long Island, Jeanne Wynne and her husband, Matt, also of Long Island; and Joan Filosa and Michael Mezzacappa of Staten Island; his brother-in-law, David Amisano and his wife, Dawn, of Hazlet; his in-laws, Jerome Amisano and Ester Bjerkaas of Naples, FL; his nieces and nephews, Jonathan, Andrea, Hayley, Emily and Sophie. A visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 29, 2015 from 5:00 to 9:00 PM at Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, 100 Elton Adelphia Road (Route 524), Freehold Township. Relatives and friends are invited to attend his 11:00 AM funeral service on Wednesday, September 30, 2015 at the funeral home, Rev. David Hunt officiating. For those who desire, contributions may be made in Joseph's name to Boy Scout Troop 258, 28 Mouse Creek Court, Howell, NJ 07731 or the Colts Neck ROTC, 59 Five Points Road, Colts Neck, NJ 07722.
