Obituary of Gerald Tietjen

Gerald J. Tietjen, 82, of Jackson passed away at home surrounded by his family on Saturday, August 8, 2015. Gerald was born and raised in New York City. He lived in Woodside, Queens, Rochester, NY, and the Great Kills section of Staten Island before settling to Jackson in 1997. Gerald was a graduate of Cardinal Hayes High School in Bronx. He received his bachelor's degree and also played on the basketball team at Iona College in New Rochelle. Gerald was a U.S. Marine Corps Veteran serving in the Korean War. He retired as a credit manager for Kodak in NYC, where he worked for over thirty-five years, starting his career in Rochester, NY. Gerald was member of the Republican Club of Jackson, Amvets, Post #2, Jackson and volunteered for AARP as a Tax Preparer. He was a former CYO Coach at St. Clare's Parish on State Island. Gerald was a fan of the Mets and Giants, an avid golfer, and enjoyed trips to Atlantic City yet his love was only for his family. Gerald was predeceased by his wife, Veronica in 2013; two brothers; and four sisters. He is survived by his children, Kathleen Lynde and her husband, Chad of Crestline, CA, Joanne Ciezak and her husband, James of Neptune City, NJ, Ellen Perchinelli and her husband, Joseph of Lido Beach, NY, and Michael Tietjen and his wife, Sharon of Mountain Lakes, NJ; seven grandchildren, Kate Gagliardi, Lauren Rossi and her husband, Sal, Nicholas Gagliardi, Anthony Perchinelli, Michael Perchinelli, Haley Tietjen, and Reid Tietjen; a great granddaughter, Riley; a sister, Veronica McCarthy of Breezy Point, NY; and numerous nieces and nephews. A visitation will be held at the Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, 100 Elton-Adelphia Road (Route 524), Freehold Township on Wednesday, August 12, 2015 from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 PM. Relatives and friend are invited to gather at 8:30 AM on Thursday, August 13, 2015 at the funeral home for the procession to The Church of St. Veronica, 4215 Route 9 North, Howell for his 9:30 AM Funeral Mass. Inurnment will be at the convenience of the family in Brig. Gen. Wm. C. Doyle NJ Veteran's Memorial Cemetery, Arneytown, NJ.
