Obituary of Joseph P. Carlucci

Joseph P. Carlucci, 99, of Manalapan passed away on Sunday, August 16, 2020 at Pine Brook Care Center, Manalapan.  He was born and raised in Seinse, Potenza, Italy and came to the United States when he was 15.  Joseph had lived in Brooklyn and had worked as a barber on 34th Street and 7th Avenue in Manhattan.  He was a member the Local 123 Barber’s Union and a member of the Knights of Columbus of Brooklyn.  Joseph proudly served in the United States Army in the 150th Infantry during World War II.  Later in life, he became active in the Men’s Club at Surrey Downs and was a former parishioner at St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church in Farmingdale.  Joseph was an active member at St. Thomas More Catholic Church in Manalapan and was a loving father, grandfather, and great grandfather.

Joseph was predeceased by his wife of 66 years, Elvira Carlucci in 2012; and sister, Mary DiGironimo in 2020.  He is survived by his son, Vincent Carlucci of Freehold; daughter, Diane Gwasda and her husband, Ronald of Manalapan; brother, Rocco Carlucci and his wife, Angie of Staten Island, NY; six grandchildren, Christopher Gwasda and his wife, Gina of Manalapan, Nicole Gwasda of Manalapan, Jennifer Gwasda of Los Angeles, CA, Jason Carlucci of PA, Kelly Carlucci of PA, and Jon Carlucci of PA; and three great grandchildren, Lola Gwasda-Aguilar, Giana Gwasda, and Christopher Gwasda, Jr.

A visitation will be held at the Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, 100 Elton-Adelphia Road (Route 524), Freehold Township on Friday, August 21, 2020 from 4:00 to 8:00 PM. Relatives and friends are invited to attend his 10:00 AM Funeral Mass on Saturday, August 22, 2020 at Our Lady of Mercy Church, 58 Main Street, Englishtown. Entombment will follow in Forest Green Park Cemetery, Morganville. For the safety of the public and our staff, we are asking everyone to help us adhere to the CDC guidelines.
