Obituary of Alice Mondana

Alice Myrtle Mondana entered her eternal rest on July 29, 2019. She was born and raised on a farm in the Genesee Valley in Idaho by her Norwegian parents, Mariane and Adolph, along with four brothers and a sister who have all

predeceased her.  She met her husband, Sam, at a USO dance while he was stationed in Idaho during WWII.  After her marriage, she resided in Klamath Falls, Oregon, for 1 year and then in New Jersey for 30 years in Moonachie and 27 years in Toms River.  Alice and Sam moved to Applewood Estates in 2010 and enjoyed life together here until his death in 2015.

Alice started her career as a secretary for the Farm Bureau in Moscow, Idaho,  and then served as the Deputy Tax Collector for Moonachie for many years.  Everyone in Moonachie knew her smiling face and kind ways.  She was a dedicated member of both St. Paul’s in Wood-Ridge for 30 years and Christ Episcopal Church in Toms River for 27 years.  Alice volunteered many hours at both churches by knitting or crocheting infants’ caps for hospitals or sewing coats for nursing home residents.

She was a truly gentle soul and always listened more than she talked.  She loved playing all types of card games and usually beat her daughters at Boggle and Scrabble (well into her 90’s!).  Alice’s hobbies included baking (the best lemon meringue and pumpkin pies), gardening (grew her own raspberries and made scrumptious jam), and bowling (she achieved a game of 232).  She also was extremely proficient at knitting, crocheting and sewing, producing many baby blankets, sweaters and clothing which included holiday dresses and even maternity clothes for her daughters!

Alice was adored and cherished by her daughters, Francine and Sandra, and their husbands Richard and Douglas, along with 4 devoted grandsons: Brian, Steven and wife Jennifer, Daniel and wife Kristin, and Marc and wife Julie.  She was especially loved by her great granddaughters, Samantha, Ava, Cassara, Olivia and Capri, and great grandsons Rocco and Rhys.

“God looked around his garden and found an empty place.   He then looked down upon the earth and saw your tired face.  He saw the road was getting rough and the hills were hard to climb, so He closed your weary eyelids and whispered “Peace be thine.”  He put His arms around you and lifted you to rest.  God’s garden must be beautiful because He always takes the best.  It broke our hearts to lose you but you didn’t go alone.  For part of us went with you the day God called you home.”
