Obituary of Edward J. Purcell, Jr.

Edward J. Purcell, Jr., 81, of Jackson passed away peacefully on Friday, April 19, 2024. He was born in New Brunswick.  Ed spent his early years in South River before moving to Sayreville.  He was a graduate of Sayreville High School Class of 1960.  Ed served in the US Army and did a tour of duty in Vietnam.  He graduated from Rutgers University and was a member of The Honor Society, Alpha Sigma Lambda.  Ed worked for EI DuPont for 30 years.  Any season of the year, you would find Ed walking the beaches at the Jersey Shore.  He started playing pickleball and loved the games with The Core Four.  His travels led him near and far, however, his heart always bought him back to Paris.  Ed loved his rock ‘n roll.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 49 years, Elizabeth Purcell; daughter, Jennifer Lieberman and her husband, Adam of Howell; son, Michael Purcell; his grandchildren, Jessica and Jake; and numerous cousins, neighbors and friends.

A memorial gathering will be held at the Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, 100 Elton-Adelphia Road (Route 524) on Thursday, April 25, 2024 from 4:00 to 7:00 PM. Inurnment will take place on Friday, April 26, 2024 precisely at 10:00 AM in Brigadier General William C. Doyle New Jersey Veterans Cemetery, 350 Province Line Road, Arneytown.  For those who desire, memorial contributions may be made to the Wounded Warriors Project, Wounded Warriors Project, P. O.
