Return to Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home

Obituary of John Joseph Carton, Sr.

John Joseph Carton, Sr., 65, of Longwood, Florida and Manasquan, New Jersey, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Saturday, February 14, 2026, at Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune, New Jersey.

Born in Montclair, NJ, John was raised in South Orange and Sea Girt.  He graduated from Manasquan High School in 1978 and went on to play basketball for the Brookdale Jersey Blues at Brookdale Community College.

John built a distinguished 44-year career in the electrical industry.  He began as an electrician with Tom Cherry Electric before moving into contractor sales in Durham, North Carolina.  In the early 1980s, he and his wife made their home in Longwood, Florida, where he continued to grow professionally.  Over the years, he worked with Maddox Supply, WESCO and Hughes Supply, and since 2006, he proudly served in contractor sales with Florida Lighting Associates.  Known throughout the industry as “Big Job John,” he earned deep respect for his integrity, work ethic, and the relationships he built along the way.

While John was proud of his professional accomplishments, his greatest joy was found outside of work.  He had a lifelong love of fishing and anything that brought him onto the water.  He treasured traveling, spending time with family and friends, and especially making memories with his beloved grandchildren.  He also enjoyed golfing with his colleagues, many of whom became lifelong friends.  Above all, John valued faith, family, friendship, and the simple moments spent together.

John was a devoted husband since 1982, a loving father, and a proud and adoring Pop-Pop. His greatest joy was his family, and he treasured every moment spent with them.

He was predeceased by his parents, Robert E. and Mary E. Carton; his sister, Marybeth “Betsy” Conway; and his nephew, Andrew Carton.

John is survived by his beloved wife of 43 years, Loretta “Lori” Carton; his children, John J. Carton, Jr. “J.J.” and his wife, Ashley, and Taylor Ann Letourneau and her husband, Douglas; his five cherished grandchildren, Grace, Cameron, Blake, Johnny (who was also his godson), and Brielle; his siblings, Robert Carton, Carol Daniels and her husband, Peter, and Sue Protheroe and her husband, Tom, Kathleen Parker and her husband, Greg; along with many loving nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his Memorial Mass at Annunciation Catholic Church, 1020 Montgomery Road, Altamonte Springs, Florida, on Friday, February 27 at 9:30 AM.  For those who can not attend Mass in person, you may participate via the Church’s live stream HERE.
