Obituary of Richard Alan Schaffer

Richard Alan Schaffer, 77, of Lakewood passed away on Thursday, February 12, 2026 at Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune. He was born and raised in the Bay Ridge section of Brooklyn, NY, and lived in Staten Island, NY and Howell before settling in Lakewood in 2021. Richard was a proud veteran having served during the Vietnam War.  He loved playing pool and watching movies.  His greatest joy in life was spending time with his family and grandchildren and his role as “Pop Pop”.

He was predeceased by his loving wife of 47 years, Carole Schaffer; parents, George and Noreen Schaffer; and his brothers, Kenny Schaffer and George Schaffer. Richard is survived by his children, Erika Schaffer LaCerra of Freehold, Richard Schaffer II of Lakewood, and Stephanie Schaffer and her wife, Jessica Schaffer of Freehold; and four grandchildren, Julia, Isabella, Liam and Amelia.

A visitation will be held at the Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, 100 Elton-Adelphia Road (Route 524), Freehold Township on Monday, February 16, 2026 from 1:00 to 3:00 and 6:00 to 7:30 PM with his funeral service to follow.
