Norma Velez-Basile

Obituary of Norma Linda Velez-Basile

Norma Linda Velez-Basile, 75, of Millstone Township, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Wednesday, October 1, 2025, at Samaritan Hospice in Mount Holly.  Norma was born in New York City and grew up on Staten Island.  She and her beloved husband James moved to Matawan to raise their growing family.  Later, they built what would soon become their loving home in Millstone Township.  Norma worked at Sunshine Biscuits (Keebler) and Charles of the Ritz (Revlon).  She also cared for the elderly, disabled, and special-needs children at Easter Seals, nursing homes, and as a private caregiver.  Above all else, Norma cherished being a devoted wife, loving mother, and adoring Me-Ma.  Her life was beautifully centered around family. She always looked forward to gathering with family, whether it was for a “31” card game, holidays, or just to be together.  Norma enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, decorating her home, taking care of her plants, and loved taking a good nap.  Norma also enjoyed shopping, whether it was at a mall, flea market, yard sale, or an antique shop.  She had a deep interest in horoscopes and astrology.  Everyone was always impressed with Norma’s uncanny intuition to guess the person’s zodiac sign.  Norma loved listening to her oldies and was Michael Jackson’s biggest fan! In the evening, you could find her watching comedies, Family Feud, Judge Judy, or Dr. Phil.  Norma lived with a big heart and generous spirit, always willing to give to others in their time of need.  Always a straight shooter if asked for an opinion she said it like it was, so be prepared!  She was known for her kindness, sweet contagious smile, and laughter.  Her down-to-earth spirit and friendly heart touched everyone who knew her.

Norma was predeceased by her loving husband, James Basile, in 2023; and her parents, Romualdo and Rose (nee Marino) Velez.  She is survived by her four daughters, Roseann Marie Iannaccone and her husband, Michael of Millstone Township; Dawn Frances Daza and her fiancé, Frank Miller of Old Bridge; Nancy Lynn Basile of Browns Mills; and Jaime Lee Basile of Brick; eleven grandchildren, Josaphine, Brian, Andrew, Alexia, Joseph, Angelina, Jessica, Eric, Gianna, Jaelee, and Brett; six siblings, four brothers and two sisters; and numerous nieces and nephews.
