I only spoke to your Dad one time, not only was he willing to speak to a strange friend of his daughter, he was kind and gave sound advice. There are many similarities between our two Dads, so I get what you are going through. Relish in the fact that your friends and loved ones will enjoy the most wonderful traits of him through you, as I know you both have biological inheritances (the best kind) that bring joy to so many. I will miss you Mr, Ed. You were always the most interesting conversationalist. I could always talk to you about any topic and you were one of the few people I knew with whom I could ruminate about the mysteries of the cosmos and who enjoyed science fiction as much as I did! We shared a love of books on that topic and I enjoyed our conversations so much.

You were the kind of person that always asked how someone was doing and expressed real interest in their answers…but the thing I loved about you the most was how happy you made my sister Dagmar. You showed her such a wonderful time during the 22 years you two spent together. The times you spent on “The End Game” were the real adventures of her lifetime and for that I’ll always be grateful . Thank you Ed, for being the generous spirit that you were. Rest in peace dear friend.

With your quiet strength and kind heart, you taught me so much without needing many words.

The world lost a bright light. I’ll never forget how the first time I brought Donald to meet them Ed kept cracking jokes telling Donald to quiet done he was being to loud. ( I think Donald said 2 words the whole evening) Now there up there cracking jokes on me. Ed you are loved many and missed by all.

Hey favorite one of all. I’m gonna miss you. I’ve known you since childhood, my Dads best friend. Block parties, you streaking, my babysitting. It’s all tied up in my life. I will never forget you sitting on the front porch asking if it was ok that you were “with” my Mom! I said just no details please lol. You made her life exciting and happy. I will always be thankful! To my sister from another mister , Cheryl and to Doug I’m so sorry for your loss. He’s with my Dad. I’m sure there’s a lot to say. To my Mom I’m so sorry you have to go through this. You were a rock and a great caregiver I love you!

Mr. Hoyles, Eddie-Two-Shoes, My Very Best Favorite.

It's been hard to find the right words to summarize how much love and light Ed brought to my life. I met Ed when I was 23, and a decade later, I had the honor of calling him one of my closest friends.

Ed was a constant source of compassion (and laughter), and served as one of my most trusted confidants. He had a magical way of making me feel not so alone- always providing priceless guidance and advice. He instilled in me a simple, but effective motto, "In Hoyles We Trust". I carry that with me every day. Sometimes it helps me not take things so seriously, and other times, it helps me work through the bigger things. As I say goodbye, I will continue to keep those words close to me.

I am sending my love, thoughts, and prayers, to Dagmar and the rest of Ed's family. I am so lucky to have known him.

I am blessed to have known Ed Hoyles for over 40 years. He was a very special person – smart, witty, kind, and considerate.

Ed was a serial entrepreneur. He started multiple businesses in different market segments, and we would often discuss business matters. Ed was also a very spiritual man. He was a devout Christian and participated in many ways at the Church of Holy Comforter in Vienna, Virginia.

When my wife passed away at 34 years of age, leaving me with two small children, Ed was there to help me. I cannot put into words how he got me through the most difficult time in my life. He was also there for my children, and they adored him.

Ed lived life to its fullest. We both belonged to the Chesapeake Yacht Club and had many wonderful memories boating on the Chesapeake Bay, visiting ports of call, and rafting up together.

Last but not least, Ed was a very funny man. His unique sense of humor could make a person laugh under almost any circumstance. I will truly miss this man, but I know that he is at peace in a better place.

While I didn't know Ed, his legacy lives on through his family. I pray he enter the gates of heaven with grace and knowledge that he has left people here that will honor him. Prayers and love to the entire Hoyle family. - Shannon V

Eddie was my big brother. I did not spend too much time with him growing up since he was ten years older than I was and he did not have much use for a little, annoying sister. Our brother, Neil (who passed away in March) was in the middle at just five years older than I was. Eddie and I grew closer as the years went by and the ten-year age gap seemed to grow smaller. I have so many memories of Eddie always being there in difficult situations such as when our father passed away suddenly at age 59 and when our mother passed away suddenly while she was on vacation in her home country of Newfoundland. I was pretty young when both our parents died and I remember Eddie was the one to take charge. He was always there for me in so many ways. I could always count on him and it is very difficult to accept that he is no longer here not just for me but also for so many people who knew and loved him. Knowing that he was loved by so many is a great comfort. He had a marvelous sense of humor and a wonderful outlook on life. He truly loved life and all the people in it. He was not only my big brother. He was my hero.
