Obituary of Rosendo U. Torres
Rosendo U. Torres, 86, of Jackson passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, April 30, 2025. Born in Tiaong, in the province of Quezon, Philippines, Ross earned his bachelor's degree from the Mapúa Institute of Technology, this is when he met the love of his life, Felicitas. They were married and together, they immigrated to the United States in 1969, initially settling in New York City before making their home in Union Beach, Hazlet, and Freehold. In 2006, they retired to Jackson.
Ross was a dedicated mechanical engineer for more than 35 years, working for several respected companies including C.E. Lummus, Kvaerner, and John Brown E&C. He retired in 2006.
A man of deep faith, Ross was a devoted parishioner of the Co-Cathedral of St. Robert Bellarmine, where he served as a Eucharistic Minister. He also attended Mass at St. Rose of Lima and St. Monica's and was a former parishioner at St. Benedict's. Ross was an active member of the Mary Queen of Peace Prayer Group and the Pasko Sa Nayon community.
Ross found joy in simple pleasures—fishing from the surf or a head boat, playing tennis, and visiting Atlantic City, where he was particularly fond of three-card poker. He and his wife shared a love of travel, exploring Europe and the Caribbean together, often by cruise ship.
However, his greatest passion was photography. With his Nikon camera always around his neck, Ross was the family's unofficial documentarian, capturing every event and cherished moment with care and love.
Ross will be forever remembered as a devoted husband, loving father, proud grandfather, and loyal brother and uncle. His warmth, faith, and generous spirit leave a legacy that will live on in all who knew and loved him.
He was predeceased by his brother, Virgilio Torres and sister, Rosalinda Rosario. Rosendo is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Felicitas; sons, Alex Torres and his wife, Sheila Cabalda of Burke, VA and Edwin Torres and his wife, Wendy of Freehold; daughter, Cindy Mallorca and her husband, Steven of New York City; grandchildren, Nicole and her husband, Vincenzo, Ashley, Max, Jasper, Spencer, and Nayla; brothers, Richard Torres, Jr. and Dr. Querico Torres and his wife, Cindy; and many nieces, nephews grandnieces and grandnephews and extended family.
