Obituary of Betty Jean Pitman
Betty Jean Pitman, 89, of the Surry Downs Community in Howell Township passed away peacefully at home with her husband by her side on Saturday, April 19, 2025.
Betty was born in Metter, Georgia, and raised in Freehold Borough, where she lived for most of her life before moving to Surry Downs in 2002. She retired as the HMO Coordinator for the State of New Jersey in Trenton. Prior to that, she worked as a Registered Nurse at Marlboro State Hospital and Riverview Hospital in Red Bank.
Betty had a deep love for gardening and took great pride in keeping her garden beautiful. She was also a devoted dog lover. Together with her husband, she traveled extensively, visiting several countries and camping throughout North America, from Canada to Tennessee.
Her faith was central to her life. A dedicated Jehovah’s Witness, she had been a member of the Kingdom Hall in Freehold since the age of fourteen.
Betty was predeceased by her brother, Fred Dickel. She is survived by her husband of forty-three years, Clark Pitman; stepchildren, Valarie and James; two nieces; a nephew; and many dear friends and cousins.
Her entombment will be held in the mausoleum at Maplewood Cemetery and Chapel Mausoleum, 169 West Main Street, Freehold on Wednesday, April 23, 2025 at 2:00 PM.
