Obituary of John C. Roberts

John C. Roberts, 82, of Lakewood passed away on Sunday, April 15, 2018 at Monmouth Medical Center, Southern Campus, Lakewood.  John was born, raised and lived in New Monmouth, retired to Appomattox, VA and settled in Lakewood in 2013.  He obtained his Bachelor’s Degree from Rutgers University and later served in the US Army Reserves.   For over 30 years, he was the owner of R & R Landscaping, New Monmouth.  A John Deere guy, he purchased their equipment for his landscape business and accumulated John Deere collectibles.  John played for a Christian fellowship softball league, and as a dedicated fan of the Atlanta Braves and Cincinnati Reds, he attended fantasy camp for both teams in the 1980s. 

He was predeceased by his wife, Elizabeth Roberts in September of 2017.  John is survived by his daughter, Betty R. Cardinale and her husband, Carl of Rock Hill, SC; son, John D. Roberts and his wife, Lori of Farmingdale; grandchildren, Samantha Roberts, Patricia Moretz and her husband, Devin, Cate Cardinale, Jacquelyn Roberts and Anthony Cardinale; two brothers, Tom Roberts and his wife, Pat of Felton, DE and Bill Roberts and his wife, Dottie of New Monmouth; and several nieces and nephews.   

Visitation will be held at the Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, 100 Elton-Adelphia Road (Route 524), Freehold Township on Wednesday, April 18, 2018 from 5:00 to 8:00 PM.  Relatives and friends are invited to attend his 11:00 AM funeral service at the funeral home on Thursday, April 19, 2018.  Interment will follow in Fair View Cemetery, Middletown.  For information, directions or condolence messages to the family, visit www.claytonfuneralhome.com
